Physical Therapy by Rev’s definition is any skill or tool used to improve musculoskeletal wellness. Movement is the key to staying healthy and restoring healthy movement is the base for everything we do at Rev.
Physical Therapy is the practice of returning someone to physical health. How you define health will drive what outcomes you seek to gain. That’s why Individualized care is SO IMPORTANT.
Physical Therapy is a young field. It began as Rehabilitation Therapy in the early 1900’s and now has 18 different specialty sections: Orthopaedic, Sports, Neuro, Acute, Cardiopulmonary, Women’s health to name a few. Yet most people’s experience with and associations of PT are with Orthopaedic Physical Therapy. I hear too often from patients and clients, “Well, I had a bad PT…” And my retort to that is that they didn’t have the RIGHT PT. Perhaps they are a high level athlete and they were in an orthopedic setting post surgically and were “graduated” before they were able to return back to sport. The highest likelihood is that they needed a Sports Therapy and continue their treatment. Not that their therapist was”bad”. In the United States we structure treatment based on an insurance reimbursement model that looks at standardized outcomes. These outcomes are agreed upon by our institutions and insurance companies and are very effective ways to measure progress. Outcome scales serve the majority of people but don’t fully cover the athletic community to the degree that’s necessary for high level performance.
If you are an athlete, you need a sports therapist and these PT’s can be found in larger institutions who accept insurance and also in a Private Setting. I love being an out of network provider and my entire session is centered around the client’s goals.
